It was a sad morning at the ranch recently. We had to tell an old friend goodbye. Boots had been our horse for over 20 years. The last two winters had been especially hard on him.
It was always fun to watch the bond between Boots and Dad. Whenever Dad would drive up or be outside working, Boots would stand at the fence and talk to him. Just a "Hey, Hey Bootsy" was all it took for him to come running. Dad used him to work cattle for many years. Boots thrived in that environment. He was spirited, fast, and quick. He would sometimes take off running through tree rows and his riders (inexperienced ones like myself and my sisters!) might end up on the ground or with many scratches.
Boots participated in a senior portrait session. He was saddled up many times for youth to ride. He was a grain hog. He was a buddy.

There really is something special about the bond between a cowboy and his horse.
I love these pictures we took of Dad and Emilia riding Boots around the ranch one afternoon in October 2008.

How special that you have such great pictures of your dad and Boots. And that the girls were able to know Boots too.
Such wonderful memories of Boots. I know he's terribly missed.
