Thursday, I was able to spend part of the morning with Emilia at school. It was her day to celebrate her birthday. Since her birthday is in July, we decided it would be fun to celebrate her half birthday!
The preschool discourages cakes and cupcakes for birthday parties. The idea is to bring your child's favorite food. So...chicken and noodles it was! We also brought along Grandma Susie's homemade bread. Emilia loves it. Most of the children enjoyed the snack...some have learned to say they are allergic to things so that they don't have to eat it!
Emilia got to put together her own birthday cake out of felt pieces. She picked a white cake with chocolate frosting. She topped it with four candles even though it was her half birthday. When the children sang "Happy Birthday" to her, she had a scared look on her face. She has cried at every birthday when we sing to her. No tears at school!
After the birthday snack, Emilia got to share the items she brought in her "ME" bag. They were: two of her toy horses (Diamond and Daddy Scooter), her favorite book "Moosestache", her favorite movie "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties", her lambie, a picture of her family, and a picture of Grandad's horses. She did a great job of talking about each item! Then, she got to choose something out of the treasure chest. She ended up with a frog finger puppet.
We even had time to play ball in the gym before it was time to go home. Some of the boys wanted me to shoot baskets with their balls, so I did. My basketball skills are a bit rusty! Emilia spent most of gym time kicking her ball from one end of the court to the other. She was a sweaty mess when it was time to line up.
Thanks for the special day, Emmie! Mommy had a wonderful time with you at school.
